Tour description: Munich – Monte Carlo and back
This is the tour of tours, for those that simply can’t get enough of the bends and serpentines, the peaks and passes. Cornering left and right in quick succession, fast gear changes and sharp focus are required.
Seven different countries are ahead of you when we leave Munich. The first day takes us through Bavaria, Austria, and Liechtenstein to Switzerland, where we’ll cross the mountains and pass Lac Leman, spending our first night near Martigny. Using both country roads and the Swiss highway allows us to reach this beautiful region close to the French border.
The next morning we’ll enter France and hit the legendary “Route des grandes Alpes”, the “Roads of the great Alps”. Now the tour really picks up pace. The route of this 7-day tour takes us into the dizzying heights and across the most impressive passes and gorgeous roads of this heart-pounding landscape.
We’ll head south, one summit after the next. Passes with names that express the personality of the region: Flüela, St. Bernhard, Asietta, Iseran, Galibier, Izoard, Var, col de la Bonette, Col de la Cayolle, Col de la Madeleine, Col de Turini and more. It’s an exhaustive menu for connoisseurs of mountain riding. It’s all here, the famous passes, the extraordinary scenery, and the local flavors, found only in the french maritime alps.
Our next night will be spent near Briancon, where the huge fortress, built by French architect Vauban during French-Italian alpine war, still stands. Then we turn south to the world-renowned vacation spots of the Cote d’Azur, Monte Carlo and Monaco. Our route follows that of the Rally Monte Carlo comprised of narrow roads and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Finally we’ll descend into Monte Carlo where we’ll rest for two nights. Of course we’ll also explore Monaco, the small independent state ruled by the Grimaldi Dynasty. It’s a unique place in Europe where they still use their own currency, stamps, as well their own language, the Monegu, which is still taught in the schools of Monaco.
Satisfied and happy, but still hungry for new challenges, we get in our cars once more and continue our tour. We’ll pass Sestriere, the famous stop on the Tour de France, then continue to Italy and Switzerland, stopping at Lago Maggiore where we’ll stay the night. Finally we’ll approach Austria an Bavaria, where Munich lies just beyond the horizon.
The adventure of a lifetime.
You’ll drive into the clouds, past white water, deep gorges, boulder fields, shimmering mountain lakes and grazing sheep. You’ll leave with the knowledge that what you have experienced in these 7 days is more than others may experience in many years.
